Hello – my name is Rachel and welcome to Nourish!  If you are already following me – THANK YOU! You won’t be disappointed as I plan to bring a lot of insightful and interesting information your way! A little about me…I’m a happy mom who is passionate about many things in life: my loving family and amazing friends, music, writing and nutrition and health!

I decided to start Nourish for 2 primary reasons:

1. I needed a vehicle to spread the word on how positive nutritional choices can lead to a long and vibrant pharmaceutical-free life and 2. To create a forum in which I can continue to learn more by interacting with others who are passionate about nutrition just like me!

In today’s world, it can be confusing as to what a “good” or “positive” nutritional choice is. There are a lot of opinions out there and therefor a number of dietary theories…low carb or Atkins, low fat, high protein, living/raw food, food combining, macrobiotics, paleolithic, vegan, etc. With the breadth of data out there, it’s simply hard to know what to do, or moreover, what not to do! Are eggs healthy or do they raise my cholesterol? Are all saturated fats bad? Can I have a glass of wine or 3? Do I have to give up pizza night? Chocolate…I cant live without my chocolate! Fundamentally, how do any of us know what is right or wrong? Although I do not think the answers are conveniently packaged with a big red bow and a label that says “Im the answer”, there are indeed solutions and steps each of us can employ to help rid disease and stay strong and full of evergy. To further, I don’t believe that nutrition, unlike anything else in this world, is a “one size fits all” deal. What works for me, may not be the best solution for you.  I also believe that as we change through life, and as our bodily chemistry and hormonal network also changes, the diet that worked when we were younger may not work as effectively with age.

If you follow my blog, this is what you can expect! I will not shy away from the truth.  As much as there is not a “one size fits all” to healthy eating, there are fundamental truths which are applicable to all of us regardless of gender, age or ethnicity. As an example, we will tackle the concept of food preservatives and additives – what they are, what they do and the overall impact on food quality and health. Each week, I will post information on a single whole food item called Food Star of the Week, like sweet potato, as well as a related yummy and healthy recipe.  I highly encourage participation and comments so please become involved and help me spread the word about healthy nutritional choices!

This blog isn’t about quick fixes but moreover, education and hopefully, inspiration! For those of you who desire to get healthy, lose weight, decrease your medication doses, etc., you will have to invest some TIME and HARD WORK. However, I believe with all my heart, that when we nourish our bodies with proper nutrition, not only do we look better and feel better, but the mind clears and we become more open and capable of embracing a world of exciting, new possibilities!
